STUART SHILS:                                                         MARCH 19 - APRIL 23, 2011
MONOTYPES AND PHOTOGRAPHS
This exhibition will consist of approximately 20 monotypes executed within the past year, and several photographs printed in editions of 10.

STUART SHILS’ travels in 2010 have provided the inspiration for his most recent group of monotypes. This past summer, STUART SHILS traveled to Italy to teach at The Jerusalem Studio Summer Program.  Based outside of Siena, a city in Tuscany, SHILS had the opportunity to travel throughout Campania, Umbria, Tuscany, the Marches, the Veneto, and Emilia-Romagna, drawing inspiration from the landscape, architecture and fine arts of these regions. During the past year SHILS also returned to teach at the studio in Jerusalem, as well as spent time in New York City.  The works in his upcoming exhibition were derived from drawings and notes he took while in Italy, Jerusalem and New York; and were executed in his studio in Philadelphia.

This exhibition is SHILS’ sixth at Davis & Langdale Company; his work has been shown in galleries and museums across in the country, including, Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects and Tibor de Nagy in New York, Hackett-Freedman in San Francisco; Mangel Gallery and Woodmere Art Gallery in Philadelphia; Bernard Toale Gallery in Boston, Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, VA, Fenton Gallery in Cork, Ireland and Rothschild Fine Arts in Tel Aviv.
