STUART SHILS: WORKS ON PAPER

OCTOBER 21 - NOVEMBER 18, 2006
The exhibition will consist of approximately 25 monotypes executed by SHILS within the last year.
In 1994, SHILS received a residency fellowship from the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, in Ballycastle, Ireland. Fascinated by the landscape, the sea, and the ever-changing weather of the northern Irish coast, he has returned every year since, to paint there for several months. Many of the pictures in the exhibition will be from this summer’s stay. SHILS also makes annual trips to Israel to paint the cityscapes of Tel Aviv and surrounding areas as well as Vermont, where he was a guest artist-in-residence in 1999 at the Vermont Studio Center. He also paints a great deal in the Philadelphia area where he spends most of his year and Indiana, where he often visits.
This exhibition is SHILS’ third at Davis & Langdale Company; his work has been shown in galleries and museums across in the country, including Tibor de Nagy in New York, Hackett-Freedman in San Francisco, Mangel Gallery in Philadelphia, Woodmere Art Gallery in Philadelphia, Barton/Ryan Gallery in Boston, Sydne Bernard in Los Angeles and Fenton Gallery in Cork, Ireland.
